Daily Measurement Lab
Measuring is taught by “measuring! And that is the
philosophy by which the Daily Measurement Lab was created.
Daily standards-based hands-on activities promote the understanding
of age appropriate measurement concepts from non-standard
to standard customary and metric measures of length, capacity,
weight, area, and volume.

Pre-Kinder and Kinder students internalize the vocabulary of length, weight, capacity and area as they measure in lots of non-standard units. Students understand what measurement is all about and begin to compare and order according to measurements.
First and Second graders estimate, measure and record in non-standard units as well as units that approximate standard measures.
Third and Fourth graders investigate standard units of measures, develop benchmarks of measurement for close estimating, and solve real-life problems involving measurement.
Fifth and Sixth graders estimate, conjecture, measure to solve problems, and measure throughout other mathematical strands.
